Coming Home to Yourself: Seeing Yourself Without the Lens of Judgement

In many ways, healing involves the journey of returning to ourselves. Finding a way to be within our own body – our first home – without the judgements placed upon us by ourselves, other people, society and expectation.

I see versions of this play out with the people who come to see me. At some point in their healing journey, there can be a moment when they begin to take off the lens of self-judgement. They begin to see that their environment – particularly when it is disturbing their peace – does not have to be a reflection of who they are. It can exist separately from them.

This is what I was thinking about when I began planning the meditation circle, Coming Home to Yourself.

I was also seeing old traumas resurfacing for many of the people coming to see me – a deeper calling for release. And I felt that, if they continued to commit to their healing, even through the difficult parts, there was the possibility of eventually seeing themselves through a healthier lens. With forgiveness. With compassion.

Something else had begun to happen in my healing sessions.

I noticed that many of the people I worked with would begin to shift as soon as I started the connection meditation at the beginning of a session. Initially, I introduced this practice to allow me to connect with the person, scan the chakras for information, activate them and notice any messages coming through.

But increasingly, I began to notice people visibly settling. Their breathing would change, their bodies would relax, and it felt as though something was already beginning to release.

Having recently trained as a meditation teacher, I wanted to create a space where meditation could offer that same opportunity to pause and breathe, but also allow the higher self to communicate – creating further space for release, shifting and alignment.

The first session was about greeting your own spirit – welcoming it into your body as a part of you to love and embrace.

In the days afterwards, I found myself thinking about the conditioning of our own self-talk.

How many times a day do we look in the mirror and sigh at our reflection? Gaze disappointedly at a part of ourselves? Allow our internal voice to become a little harsher?

And I imagined our spirit standing outside of us, hearing all of this – exhausted by the low hum of constant doubt, criticism and disappointment.

And yet, imagine the opposite.

Imagine greeting yourself with love.

Imagine looking at yourself without all the lenses that have gradually been placed upon you – by other people, by experiences, by expectations and eventually, perhaps, by yourself.

This meditation journey moves through those lenses. We explore the inner child, sending love and forgiveness to the body, and eventually returning to the home within ourselves.

The first session was an honour to deliver, and I look forward to seeing how the rest of the journey unfolds for the participants.

To greet ourselves with love and to view ourselves through an unfiltered lens is a journey worth taking.

And I hope that yours brings you beautiful connections and experiences along the way.
